Hello Plastic and Goodbye Wood Racket

ITTF To Ban Wood Rackets In 2015! If this really comes from the ITTF president mouth, then he is really insane.

  1. Instead of banning wood, why not allow plastic or other non-wood material and let it evolve like tennis racket. Most of Tennis history, rackets were made of wood. In late 60’s, Wilson produced the T2000 steel racket. Aluminum, graphite, ceramics, boron and titanium composite racket follows and the wooden racket gradually disappeared. Look at the sport now, there is no wooden racket in modern tennis.
  2. Why ban wood racket in 2015? There are millions of wood being cut and use for a very short period of time, examples are construction materials, packaging and chopstick.
China alone produces 80 billion disposable chopstick per year or roughly 20 million trees! I guess table tennis wood use is not even 1 percent of disposable chopstick in China.

I think Chinese activist needed Mr. Shahara more to help them encourage people to carry their own non-disposable chopstick.

By the way, maybe he is thinking of replacing table tennis table with plastic too. :)
