Most table tennis players change grip especially when they serve with forehand.
What about during the rally? I do change grip, but not really paying attention to it. It is only my forefinger that moves when I hit the ball from forehand/backhand, on forehand forefinger moves farther from racket edge and on backhand it moves back to the edge. My thumb never moves it is always on top of the tapered part of the handle. Few players shift their thumb on top of the rubber when they execute a backhand loop, block and push then move back to the handle to execute a forehand stroke.
Famous Japanese chopper Koji Matsushita moves his thumb to on top of the rubber (see picture on the right) to make his forehand chop more stable.Â
Some say that you don’t have enough time to change grip during the rally, that maybe true if many fingers are involve.
How about you? Do you change grip?
