Way back 2005 here in Tokyo; I noticed that some table tennis players wear Mizuno Wave series shoes which are really good in terms of design and in my opinion the shoe sales from other manufacturer dropped.
Now I am seeing more players again wearing Butterfly shoes and that is the ENERGYFORCE (one word) with αGel technology from Asics. I haven’t tried it yet but it is light and flexible.
αGel technology is silicon based cushioning system that provides overall shock attenuation. Asics (an acronym for the Latin phrase “Anima Sana In Corpore Sano” which translates into English as “Sound mind in a sound body”) also have table tennis shoes but I personally don’t like the outer sole edge and thickness.
Butterfly released the ENERGYFORCE I and II last April, ENERGYFORCE I is available outside Japan, read the details from Butterfly-World site; the later is only sold in Japan. So what is the difference between I and II? The earlier is has thicker sole with αGel and soft and flexible EVA foam (Ethylene-vinyl acetate) and cost around 15 USD more, the later has thinner mid-sole lighter, softer and only with αGel.
