THE Philippine National Police (PNP) table tennis club, aiming for a higher level of international exposure, is set to leave the country for US Open Table Tennis Age-Group Championship in Las Vegas Nevada on July 3 to 5.

After placing second in the North American table tennis championship in Baltimore, Maryland, USA last November 2007, the PNP table tennis squad, headed by playing coach PO3 Jose Ortalla Jr., are facing a new challenge in Las Vegas.

“We are going to participate in the US Open because it will help us hone our skills before we compete in the coming International Police and Fire Games in Florida in August,” said Ortalla, also the Table Tennis Association of the Philippines vice president.

The PNP men’s paddlers are composed of Ortalla Jr., younger brother Henberd, Paul Puentespina, Welmer Suganob, Alsabre Delos Reyes, Benjamin Hilado, Alberto Dichavez, Oscar Santilices and Joseph Cruz.

The women’s team are Leslie Causapin, Lianne Kay Pacana, Madonna Saligumba and Glorie Ann Legario.

This is the first time the PNP paddlers have joined the US Open to compete against the best of the world, which includes powerhouse countries like China, Singapore, Japan, Poland, Finland, Germany and Sweden, among others.

Sorry po at nde ako swapang (looking only Cebuano/Bisaya clubs). What I mean for the “batang pongers” were the 2008 Palawan Palarong Pambansa winners because they deserve to be exposed outside the country. They are the current best younger pongers in the Phils. ;)
