PO3 Jose Ortalla Jr and Joseph Cruz of Philippine National Police Table Tennis Club (PNPTTC) placed at top 64 in men’s singles open in the conclusion of US Open table tennis championship at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas USA.
Ortalla, the vice-president of Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP), and Cruz had survived the 800 participants from various continents that competed in the popular week-long international tournament.
“It was really a great experience playing our first US Open because we met popular international players,” said Ortalla, who landed at top 32 after his rival, Chinese Shen Qiang was already default the match when he arrived 1 hour late.
But Shen personally requested Ortalla who granted his request to continue their match. “I came here in US to play and not to win via default,” said Ortalla, who had no regrets for playing against Shen.
Ortalla and younger brother Henberd settled in top 16 out of 64 countries participated in the men’s doubles open.
Meanwhile, 80’s popular player Oscar Santelices entered in the round of 16 at the 40-above men’s event after outplaying almost 64 participants in his category.
