Negros Occidental Table Tennis Team rules 3rd Philippine Olympic Festival Visayas Table Tennis Championship Games

Negros Occidental Table Tennis Team captured 4 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronzes to rule the 3rd Philippine Olympic Festival Visayas Table Tennis Qualifying Games held July 23-27, 2008 at Foundation University Gym, Dumaguete City.

Mentored by Marell Lagunday (former RP team), overall champion Negros Occidental opened up in the elimination round, building commanding leads by occupying the 1st and 2nd spot in their respective bracket in boy’s and girls singles 14 and 17 years old under.

Sweeping to a lopsided win, all-Negros Occidental padllers final showdown in boy’s and girls singles 14 and 17 years old under. John Paul Gubaton captured the boy’s singles 14 under and Danilo Abonales ruled the boy’s singles 17 under. While Beverly Paulma dominate girl’s singles 14 and 17 under.

Followed by Bohol Province as 1st runner-up, hauled one gold, one silver and two bronzes, 2nd runner-up host Negros Oriental collected 1 gold and 4 bronzes, Antique placed fourth with 1 silver and 3 bronzes and Siliman secured 1 silver to placed in fifth.

Gerves Espaňola of Bohol seized the boy’s singles 20 under and Ma. Sangria Maputy of Negros Oriental secured the girl’s singles 20 under.

The absence of Iloilo team (2007 Visayas overall champion) did not influence the excitement and eagerness of the energetic participants that drew a hundreds of enthusiastic crowds, witnessing the fastest games on earth.

POF’s Tournament Director Dante Boquiren of TATAP is sighting the next upcoming future star of Philippine table tennis to be coming here in the Visayas area.

The medal winners of the POF Visayas Qualifying Games will compete in the Philippine Olympic Festival (POF) National Championships on October 20-26, 2008 at Misamis Oriental. Aside from table tennis, other sports to be competed in the 3rd POF National Championships were aquatics, archery, athletics, baseball, basketball, football, gymnastics, judo, table tennis, taekwondo, wrestling, arnis, chess, karatedo, muay, power lifting, sepak takraw, dance sports, dragon boat, softball, volleyball.

The Philippine Olympic Festival Organizing Committee (POFOC) was chaired by POC’s Robert N. Aventajado.

Boy’s singles 14 under:

Gold- John Paul Gubaton (Negros Occidental)

Silver- Edmund Garganian Jr. (Negros Occidental)

Bronze-Roderick Rodriguez (Negros Oriental) and Steven Gonzaga(Negros Occidental)

Girl’s singles 14 under:

Gold- Beverly Paulma (Negros Occidental)

Silver- Shamiela Pineda(Negros Occidental)

Bronze-Marcelle Josephine Galera (Antique) and Rachel Parba (Negros Orriental)

Boy’s singles 17 under:

Gold- Danilo Abonales(Negros Occidental)

Silver- John Paul Gubaton (Negros Occidental)

Bronze- Jojemar Bungabong (Antique) and Edmund Garganian Jr. (Negros Occidental)

Girl’s singles 17 under:

Gold- Beverly Paulma (Negros Occidental)

Silver- Shamiela Pineda (Negros Occidental)

Bronze- Trishie Radaza (Bohol) and Ma. Sangria Maputy (Negros Oriental)

Boy’s singles 20 under:

Gold- Gerves Espaňola (Bohol)

Silver- Joseph cedrome (Siliman)

Bronze- Jojemar Bungabong (Antique) and Jesse Soria (Bohol)

Girl’s singles 20 under:

Gold- Ma. Sangria Maputy ((Negros Oriental)

Silver- Marcelle Josephine Galera (Antique)

Bronze- Gioyune April Umali ((Negros Oriental) and Lurielle Shanan Balneg (Negros Oriental)
