Rizal, Quezon padllers shines in 3rd POF-BST Championship Games

Rizal province table tennis team headed by Michael Magpantay toked the limelight in table tennis event in the recent 3rd Philippine Olympic Festival Bicol Southern Tagalog Qualifying Games held at Rizal Memorial Coliseum, Malate Manila.

Rizal province  triumphantly captured the overall  champion by bagging 3 gold, 5 silver and 9 bronzes followed by first runner-up Quezon province  with  3 gold and 2 bronzes and Naga City secures second runner-up by collecting 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.

Overall champion Rizal province powered by Palarong Pambansa’2007 gold medalist Rowena Morales  dominate the Girl’s 14 under,   and Beatriz Magpantay, a gold medalist in Palarong Pambansa’2008 ruled the Girl’s 17 under. Likewise, Palarong Pambansa’2008 gold medalist Rondell Blanco captured the boy’s 14 under champion. All three mentioned medalist were students of St. Martin Montessori School, Angono, Rizal mentored by coach Mr. Magpantay and coach Isaias Seronio.

Meanwhile, Quezon province event’s bi-medalled athlete Leo Sacopla ruled the boy’s 17 under and boy’s 20 under while Marianne Sanches ruled the girl’s 20 under.

The awarding ceremony was attended by a POF Official Mr. Nestor Ilagan and Table Tennis Tournament Director Ben Alfonso.

“All medal winners from  bronze to gold will qualify to join the National POF Championship slated on November 6-11, 2008 at Misamis Orriental. And they will compete to the medal winners from different areas in Central Northern Luzon (CNL) , National Capital Region (NCR), Mindanao Qualifying Games and Visayas Qualifying Games ” Tournament Director Alfonso added.

The event was held here because of lacking standard venue in Laguna.
