THE men of Philippine National Police (PNP) – Butterfly squad made Baguio City one of their victims in the ongoing first Philippine Table Tennis Championship team event.
PNP-Butterfly, relying heavily on Santo Tomas U coach Henberd Ortalla and Paul Puentespinas, swept Baguio City, 3-0, in the quarterfinal round to make it to the semifinals Wednesday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Before reaching the quarterfinals, the many-time AFP-PNP Olympics champion PNP team also dismantled Pasay City (3-0) and Makati City (3-0) in the early round of the tournament organized by the Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP).
PNP meets Filipino-Chinese Athletic Association Federation (FCAAF) in the semifinals of the team event which participated by more than 30 local government units (LGU).
FCAAF defeated Philippine Air Force, 3-2, in the quarterfinals round.
Other men’s quarterfinalists were Quezon Province, which beat Metropolitan Table Tennis Association (METTA) of Ting Ledesma, 3-1, while Cebu City whipped Bacoor, 3-0, and Quezon City whacked Pampanga, 3-0.
In other results for women’s team play quarterfinal round , FCAAF won over Quezon City, 3-0, to advance in the final four to face Quezon Province, an early 3-0 winner against University of the Philippines.
Negros Occidental trounced Cebu City, 3-2, to meet METTA-Manila, an early 3-0 winner against Candelaria, in the semifinals stage.
