THE unbeaten Philippine National Police (PNP) men’s paddlers conquered the AFP-PNP Olympics for the seventh time around, sweeping the entire round of the 2008 edition of men’s table tennis team event at the Camp Crame Gym in Quezon City.
PNP, riding on the crest of its seven straight year victory, dominated Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force and Philippine Navy in first and second round to claim the title of the one-month tournament organized by three branches of AFP and PNP.
Table Tennis Association of the Philippines vice president PO3 Jose Ortalla Jr led the team along with PO2 Rodel ‘Ireneo’ Valle, PCI Rodrigo Sarmiento, PO1 Henberd Ortalla, PSI Romeo Panal, PSI, Welmer Suganob, Psupt Mansueto Villar, PO3 Ronald Villon, PO2 Vicente Supil, PO2 Richard Nieva, PSIÂ Â Paul Puentespina and PO1 Federico Sebastian.
“I’m really thankful we retained our title,” said playing coach PO3 Jose Ortalla Jr., also the Table Tennis Association of the Philippines. “We are also glad that we are the only sports in PNP that won seven consecutive AFP-PNP Olympics.”
Philippine Army, composed of Southeast Asian Table Tennis Championship men’s singles champion Corporal Richard Gonzales, Sargeant Dario Hernani and Sargeant Arsenio De Guzman, placed first runner-up.
Philippine Air Force, led by Michael Dalumpines and Leo De Leon, placed third and Navy settled at fourth.
