Carranza appointed as table tennis youth head
8:03 am in News by Josef Ramos
TABLE TENNIS Association of the Philippines (TATAP) Chairman Alvin Carranza has been formally appointed by fellow TATAP Board of Trustees as head of the National Junior and Grassroots Development Program.
Due to the successful staging of his recently concluded two junior events, the nine members of the board of trustees led by its President Col. Cesar Hawthorne Binag and Vice-president Jose Ortalla Jr., have unanimously agreed to appoint Carranza to the position.
“I’m excited to become part of our grassroots development and I believe in a few more years the Philippines will become globally competitive,” said Carranza, who recently held grassroots tournament in each of Luzon and Visayas.
He organized the Luzon leg in Manila last April and the Carranz Outdoor Visayas leg last May in Bacolod City to select 14 junior pool members each, while the Mindanao selection will be held sometime October.
Carranza, an outdoor media specialist known to billboards businesses, who funded both junior events, is eyeing to hold more junior and grassroots events next year, which aims to discover fresh talents that could eventually become future members of the national team.
“After the two tournaments, I noticed that there are lots of young talents all over the country. All we need to do is identify them,” he said. “Filipinos have a bright chance to succeed in table tennis.”
Aside from the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao legs, Carranza is eyeing to hold events also in different barangays here in Metro Manila and near provinces to look for more talents.
The selected players, said Carranza, will be given a chance to compete for the coming Southeast Asian Table Tennis Junior Championship or in any other junior events abroad.
Carranza, whose event is supported by Café Lupe restaurant in Antipolo and Killerspin, is also planning to host the 2012 Southeast Asian Table Tennis Association (SEATTA) Championship somewhere in the country to improve the sport.
Carranza said that TATAP must act now in searching for more competitive junior players because most senior players are not getting any younger.
“We should start pooling the potential players that could replace our current national team for the coming years,” said Carranza, who encourages all clubs to become part of his campaign in developing Philippine table tennis for greater heights.

sana by province ang tournaments dito sa Mindanao…dahil sa tulad naming walang funds no travel..
@vader,
darating dyan mindanao cdo ata
ang selection
october ata
abangan nyo.
pete
how about other regions pete? do you have first hand info?
@sir pete, malayo cdo sa amin, half day travel by bus..
HOY GISING!!! otherwise i tell you – failure din ito!!!! kahit anong program for the so called: “junior ”
sorry for being so makulit tungkol dito!!! dahil one mile away amoy ko na ang “cancer” dito. and everyone should join hands tungkol dito. wag mag bubulag bulagan, bibingi bingihan sana.mga top brass.
pete
Wala pa akong nabasang ground rules for LuzViMin junior selection… dapat me nakalatag na.
eto ang lumabas sa dyaryo today
http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=486306&publicationSubCategoryId=69
butch annoucnement palang ito para malaman ng tao sino “hari” pertaining to junior – so now lahat tungkol junior dadaan na sa kanya
pete
come to think of it ilang province lang per region ang actual na nagbebenefit sa program na yan, they should first survey so that we can really declare this as a NATIONAL program
Question is who will be his appointed national coach for the juniors? The best way for him to have a better selection including the “promdis” is to implement a ranking system by recognizing existing major tournaments all over the country–Chancellor Cup, LOPTTA tournament, Huaching tournament, Jawad Cup, Cag. de Oro Fiesta tourney, Phil. Olympic Festival, Milo Little Olympics and Palarong Pambansa. Results of the said ranking system based on that events might not need a special junior selection tournaments. He can save money and effortsto have the best Phil. Juniors.
Also, much better if he can spend an hour here in tatapx for discussions in the forums.
Hi Harry. How are you. It’s nice to know that TATAP now has considered the Junior Program Head position and program seriously compared to the old days when PV was around and when you, Julius, Peter and Gigi and the SAM day kids were still active. I congratulate Mr. Carranza and hope for the best to his program. He has done projects and tournaments that has been done before by past club presidents. The only difference is that local clubs did not get much financial support and media attention. The only difference is that local clubs did not get much financial support and media attention as today. I know Milo gave TATAP the opportunity to be part of their youth sports program, but that was it as far as youth table tennis in the regional level is concerned. I don’t I dont know nor have met Mr. Carranza personally, I wish I can so we can discuss more future projects, but I’m glad that he continued the initiative of those passionate local and regional table tennis leaders
before him and for starting and promoting tournaments that TATAP can finally claim as their own. So Mr Harry Tan, please convey my message and support to Mr Carranza when you get the chance. Thank you
BTW regards to Junnie and Ireland.
WHAT? Misinformed. Again as I have said clubs and independent coaches and institutions have done table tennis programs for their clubs and community but were not given due recognition by TATAP. In fact DepEd formerly DECS through the BPESS and PSC under sectoral sports program have been doing grassroot programs since 1988. I remember 1990 when I attended a summer clinic offered by a table tennis club in quezon city and by CHK in UP. Me and my classmates ended up playing against each other in the UAAP junior divison. Oskie just took the opportunity when he got in UP.
Teka muna Pete. I’m sorry but you have to refresh me again about rule 3 and 4 and why are you and some of the respondentrs are against it. I have been away from this forum for a long time that I got lost in the thread. Maybe i can help you with this.
umpisahan natin dito. pwede natin isa isahin ang reasons.
for one : once officially tried out and picked. seems like inilalagay sa “golden chair” ang mga junior national team – wag dapat.! mag”stagnant “yan !
hayaan mo continous ang practice on their own at sumabak sa palarong pambansa and let others have the chance to beat him or her. ‘acid’ test.
with rule dep ed rule 3 and 4
parang early retirement na sya. oh boy !
xxxxxxx
eh talaga ba naman may consistent proper trainning ang bata bilang isang junior national team ?, mwf ang schedule somewhere at may allowance? wala naman eh , at least for table tennis.
baka ibang sports meron, suportado . eh table tennis.? – kkb pa ata or abonado pa.
eh nalagay pa ata sa ” alaganin” pa ata ang bata being a junior national team with lack of these i mention above. then pag dating sa represent abroad , – ‘ wala pang budget? or kkb mangyayari i tell you. talagang awa me.
so okay national team- sasakay me, pero kapag pumalpak ang national program (someway down the road – di masabi ) eh ruin na ang young pinggong life nya . at least makabalik sila sa palarong pambansa naman or halos banned for life na sila sa munting pagkakamali ng hakbang ! naku!!!! at di ma fully enjoy yung pinggong skul life nila ng husto. ngek!
hep hep !!!may sharp curve ahead.
pete
@art
Welcome back Art!
Julius and Gigi are still active, I am only active online.
You can find the rules 3 & 4 here.
http://www.tatapx.org/2009/06/19/who-controls-the-players-psc-or-deped/
kaso just because national team sya elite na sya ? for junior
di totoo – at least. for table tennis.
kkb nga eh. on your own. kaya wag ilagay sa entablado.
mali yon – at least for table tennis. siguro ma panis pa
cguro sa ibang sports suportado ng gobyerno okay at properly trained baka may foreighn coach pa nga eh
yun ! yung ang elite. and seems not fair for others
eh masisilat din yan – kapag di nagpractice on his “own pocket money nga”.
so dapat ba talaga ‘ give chance to others’ sa table tennis situation natin ngayon or the past few years, or many years na cguro. – mali yon!
eh wala naman formal training mga yan at down the road
. – in short ” kent afford ”
pwede nga biglang ” limbo ‘ ang mangyari ng bata dahil nga di na sinosuportahan ng psc or what.
may a way a way pa ang hierarchy. lage nalang.
kkb nga eh !
kahit pa mag outing to represent. msot probable mangyari ‘have money can travel’ policy— as you call it mel. — no supoort eh kahit financial anong magagawa natin? trabaho dapat ng bansa ito – to support even financial . bakit si ne single out ang tabel tennis. kawawa naman ang table tennis.
the solution:
so at least may palarong pambansa pa silang ma balikan just in case, kung minalas sa kanan – punta sila sa kaliwa. iba ang case ng table tennis. baka di alam ng dep ed.
pete
sabi mel :
dapat pete give chance to others ?
- you mean dep ed rule 3 and 4
payag me ilagay sa “golden chair” ang mga national junior team kung talagang——- may serious offical training, and be branded as “elite” but as you say, way back 5 years na ata or what or higit pa , wala ng ganyan klaseng training di ba? ako part of training nuun, gintong alay. tagal na rin , dahil na ranasan ko yan. so im speaking from experience. i missed those training.
may budget pa.
but to brand them basta basta ” elite ” walang official traning , deprive them into palarong pambansa. — i think may grey area dun
hayaan mo sumabak sa palarong pambansa para ma gauge nila sarili nila at ma guage din ng ibang player sa kanila . kapag ako kaharap ko national player , how i wish i will beat him ! mas Kabado na yung kalaban. mas may karangalan syang iniignatan.!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
mel says
= i agree.
= so selecting or voting for a tatap leader at least willing to
voluntarily contribute even financial matters at hindi iiwas ?
or at least magaling mag solicit ng sponsor na walang palpak
tama?
ang tunay na qualification ? otherwise you are saying para saan pa
ang leader , ganyan ba?
” have money will spend money and wish to be a leader ” policy ganyan ba. you are saying?
so in reality – it still boils down to ” money” di ba. at these hard times
how i wish i were at those time – pre

Thanks Harry. Now I would like to hear your views on this subject. You were once a SCUAA or a PICUAA player but this is college level.Do you think Palaro should also have the same rules as UAAP & NCAA or should UAAP & NCAA change their rules too?
How about you Butch wahts your view? You have several propsals above that are interesting to discuss. Can you schare any personal experience in Palaro as a player or as coach that deprive you or your kids the opportunity to participate?
As I have said in my previous message, I am offering my help to at least let the people concerned and Deped officials know about this your complaints and let them study it. I will try to arrange a live forum with them so wwe can hhear their side frist hand. How about this August? Would you be interested to attend? Pete, Mel, Butch, Vader, Harry maybe over merienda? I need your reply by Wednesday.
sir harry…maybe we could have a separate topic for this dep ed rules ..
like i said the rule is generic to all sports discipline and not isolated to the sport we love: table tennis
a letter is already prepared to be address to them soon
i want something in black and white.
perhaps add on nalang ang any other forums
even alvin is concern about their stance about this.
pete
sabi mel:
= or you are speaking about giving chance to others about tatap ?
or you are not trying to discuss about dep ed rule 3 and 4
sori if i didnt get you, medyo nalito ako dito.
i was talking about dep ed.
xxxxxxxxx
if mr. so kim cheng dati , nagtulong ng ganyan
i salute to him.
xxxxxxxxx
i agree to you saying mel na hope , how we wish ——– may leader tayo na ‘willing to sarifice even financial’ if needed be. at may kakayahan talaga .’
xxxxxxxxxxx
pete
@pete
I thought you said you already sent a letter to the deped management and you are waiting for a reply? there seems to be inconsistency regarding that matter my friend
endorso.etc etc.
anyway, ang mga latest na ipapadala abroad in case junior , kung naging okay ito for junior is next year pa naman – the nearest.
although its better na we should know ang tunay na damdamin ng dep ed as early as possible.
pete
@art: meeting of the minds on DepEd rules 3 & 4 and other Palaro concerns ay medyo mahirap because of our different locations, Harry is in Tokyo, Vader in Ozamis, Patrick in Iligan, Pete in Manila, and me? pwede Cagayan de Oro or Cebu.:(
I am more on putting back the old Palaro rules. In early 80′s national players can play in Palaro, one good example is Richard Ching.
@vader
There was a separate topic re:DepEd rules but this topic always pops up.
@butch
Geographical location is not an issue these days if you have a broadband, Skype conference call will do. I use skype to call my relatives in the Philippines for hours without any issue even they are at 256kbps and very bad internet service provider SMART.
http://www.skype.com/allfeatures/conferencecall/
@Harry: yep we can do the skype way (the best e-call so far)… We also use it with my old former peers at Signetics and until now they were still in the Semiconductor companies…
@art: padala mo nalang merienda natin online??? just kidding..
skype? never heard such.
pete
‘pag naka Globe Tattoo or Smart Bro kahit wala nang load SIM mo pwede pa rin skype to skype text messages…;)
that would be a good idea, to give more emphasis to the query
. you do that pete
Mel taga saan ka ba? If your from Manila how about you me and pete meet maybe Ist week of August?
@patrick
dun na ang formal query namin sa dep ed signed ng lahat concern kahit pa tatap chairman, , naibigay ko na sa dep ed pasig nung monday for their cebu meeting at sa right hand ni mr. len toledo.
ang tatap letter i po post ni harry soon and you can put a link to dep ed website para ma pagusapan nila more and the public will see it.
however, we dont expect an instant answer coming from cebu ends tomorrow, but soon an answer will follow and in writing for our guidance.
pete
see i told you that’s the right time since that’s their annual convention for palaro assessment.
thanks patrict for the tip at nahabol din.
last minute, hinabol ko pa sa airport monday a m ang isang kopya ng letter to somebody in dep ed na palipad na – para sure umabot sa cebu
pete
pinadala yayan at ryan ata dahil nasa national pool
thats all i know of the latest.
this 2 lang qualify eh. sa age , availability etc.
pete
@pete: si yanyan at ryan nasa national “swimming pool” ba? nakakatawa kayong nasa tatap… har,,har,,har
For me, filipino rubber kids are no place in asian tourneys, I’ll start my LIHA kids in Mandaue city thiis summer…he..he..he..
@pete
eto pala yung result sa Thailand

No doubt that Ian Lariba can compete against other players from our neigboring nations since she was a kid. Bakit nde ibuhos lahat ang support ke Yan-yan–give her the best training outside the Phils. pag sa pinas lang, walang magyayari tatanda na lang si Yan-yan at nde nya maabot ang no.1 spot for Southeast Asia. It is time that she will have an advance training in Europe or China accompanied her longtime uncle-mentor, Egoy Dacayanan of Cagayan de Oro City.
Too late for Yanyan sir Butch.
bakit too late boyang?
i wonder why you said that. can you bring out this topic?
also i had a question , yan yan is there in palaro
dario told me she cannot play.
she said no.!
lahat nito nagugluluhan ako.
pete
Yan-yan did not qualify last Tarlac Palaro because she did not compete in the lower meets (Division and regionals).
Ian Lariba is only 15 years old at parating nasa Honor List sa school, no.1 sa pingpong at no.1 sa academics–good enough to send her abroad for advance training together with her long-time uncle-mentor.
better late than never. As for Yan-Yan, she has the talent and skill. She only needs to hone her skills further and the only way to do that is to sponsor her training in China.
BTW, she won the 15 under, 17 under and Women’s Open in the just recently concluded METTA Cup. So it is but appropriate that we need to support her training.
Walden Ledesma is currently training in China. Thanks to his supportive father. If only Ian Lariba is that well endowed as Walden…IMHO, Yan2x is a worthy investment.
