Ponger: “me instant noodles po kayo”?
na nakakaintidi sa laro na ito. we are active players eh ,either now or before and we care.
“parential guidance ” needed pre and also will try to HELP the general philippine table tennis coumunity. thru suggetions and voicing out too. !
i love to see the junior visayas an mindanao playes play against each other often pre
nakakatuwa maglaro ang mga bata. – genuine eh , imiiyak pa yung iba kapag natalo.
what a site to behold!!!
pete
Yep, agree on you na genuine ang laro nang mga bata…
@Pete: it reminds me of the Central Visayas Regionals last 2005–Championship sa elementary, Mandaue City versus Tanjay City.
Is there a tournament here in CDO/Iligan who can still qualify for the juniors team-Mindanao… We have Eugene Paradela in Iligan who is still under 14 years old, and the Binoyas in CDO.
Thank you for your comments and even your suggestions. Before I answer them, I would just like to make it clear to everybody that The National Junior Development Program of TATAP is under Mr. Alvin Carranza. My participation here is purely voluntary and just like those who have commented, I am also entitled to mine too. As long as it is a healthy discussion and would benefit the sport as a whole especially the youth, then we are
in the same boat.
When Mr. Carranza assumed his position as head of the National Junior Program, he requested me to help him institutionalize this program. I told him that the only way to have a comprehensive grassroots development program is to involve “ALL” and identify talents from all over the country. Humility speaking, I offered him my Chancellor’s Cup to start off as a basis for Luzon selection considering the level of competition in addition to the substantial participation from the youth. And he agreed. In line with that, Mr. Carranza also asked the support of Dr. Leonito Lopue if he can host the Visayas selection in Bacolod City in May of this year and help in coordinating and disseminating the event to the different provinces in Visayas. The event pushed through although there were some provinces which weren’t able to participate and one of them is Cebu. According to Dr. Lopue, there was an event that was going on there that’s why Cebu wasn’t able to join. Mr. Carranza knows it also but still the event pushed through. During the Bacolod event, Mr. Dario Hernane was there and assigned to conduct the Liha events. Mr. Carranza talked to him and asked if Mr. Hernane can host the Mindanao leg in Cagayan de Oro. It was even announced during that event that Mr. Hernane will work for the hosting of the Mindanao leg. Unfortunately upon learning that Mr. Hernane is still in the States, I presumed that that the Mindanao leg will be postponed or maybe moved to a later date. Suddenly, more than a week before the Kadayawan Tourney, Mr. Carranza told me that he talked to Dr. Loiue Metran and that the Kadayawan Tourney will be a basis for the Mindanao leg but without the 17 and under category. The event pushed through. So that’s how the list was made based from these three major events. I just did my part based from what Mr. Carranza requested me to do under his program.
Now if you’re telling me that there is something fishy about the way the selection was conducted in the Visayas, then I would suggest you can direct your inquiry to Mr. Carranza (outdoorman@mac.com) himself or probably Dr. Lopue since he was tasked to host the Visayas leg. I cannot answer for the Visayas selection. But how I wished the event should’ve been attended by all top players from Visayas. I can also say the same thing for Mindanao. Perhaps Dr. Metran can answer your inquiry.
If you’re going to ask me personally, I wish that the selection bases would really result to having the ” VERY BEST PLAYERS” in the country. Since the slots for the different categories are not filled up yet ( 5 each for Boy’s 17 and 14 under for Luzon, Visayas and Mindana0 – a total of 60 players in the pool), I suggested to Mr. Carranza to have the National Chapiomships in ULTRA serve also as a basis for selecting the winners who will fill up those slots especially those who failed to join the previous events.
I can answer BUtch’s concern. Yes I do agree that its hard for players to shell out money if it will just go to waste. But there is a solution to this. I have been batting for a ” Decentralization” of the national Junior Program. I agree that it will be hard for provincial players to be sent to Manila to train in the National Junior team with a lot of sacrifice including their studies. This is not what I hope to be. Decentralization would mean standardizing the national training program for all those who are selected or even to those who are talented. They can train in their respective provinces/ clubs with the support of their LGU’s or other private sectors. Coaches can be tapped to be part of the national coaches pool so that these coaches will also have a legal personality to coach their players and even to coach the ” National team” if their players are qualified to represent the country. Everybody will be given equal chances to represent the country if ever there is an international event lined up. TATAP’S role uinder Mr. Carranza’s program is to monitor and supervise the program being institutionalized in these provinces. Sometimes they can send the national coaches say for a week or so to assist in the training and also perhaps to train the local coaches as well. If there is an event lined up, then a selection of these pool of players can be conducted and select the national team who will represent in the said event. Maybe some provinces would want to host this as this can also save money for provincial players and not having the selection be conducted only in Manila.I understand other person’s plight that they are sometimes deprived of their right to represent the country because the selection basis is done either abruptly or say would only benefit a few. But I guess through this, we can involve ” EVERYONE” so that the desire to become a member of the national team is done at its highest standard. Yes, there are some players sent to international events at their own expense and even their efforts. WE may not send the best but still the country is represented. Others feel degraded and unfair since no selection has been made and that the said player/team still has the luxury to represent the country even if you don’t send the best team.
Through standardizing the program involving everyone, then we can truly select the best team regardless of whether you belong to Luzon, Visayas or Mindanao.
Ito lang po ang aking concern. I hope Mr. Carranza’s program will materialize coz his program is “the most significant program of it all” Personally, I can only do so much since my support in this program is purely voluntary. But in my own small way humility speaking as a former national player, coach and even as a former SEc. General of TATAP, i want to also share some of my thoughts in order to improve the level of our youth in the country. I will address all your concerns to Mr. Carranza and hopes that he can do something about these concerns.
Thanks,
Coach Oskie

tama ka grandmaster ang nag bebenefits lang ung malalapit lang sa mga tatapnp.national junior pool kuno..pag walang budget ung may pera din ang ipapadala.
LuzViMin noodles.hehehe
For me, the system in the Cadet/Junior Pool selection must be concrete and not questioned or “hardwork” for the kids to be on top among the bests we have in the country–Ranking or rating system must be implemented in every tournament participated.
The “old” training pool system in the national, or even if you decentralized it locally still the products could not compete against our neighboring SEA countries.
Example is the very talented Ian Lariba, 3 or 4 yrs ago she was very competitive outside Phils. but now, talagang hirap na syang manalo against younger SEA kids!
My conservative suggestion:
Select the top 3 kids thru rating or ranking system and let their respective clubs trained them respetively (here comes the Class A players do their part) and the club is responsible in exposing them competing locally.
Let TATAP do the job in sending the kids abroad every summer for advanced training and new techniques. Kung me kid na walang hilig sa schooling at magaling sa pingpong, why not support him/her for one-year training abroad. Let’s not focus on China or Germany as the training ground, why not Hongkong?
Thanks and more power!
sabi mel :
pag walang budget ung may pera din ang ipapadala.
= wag na natin pagusapan ang so called new junior – down the road na mostly likely mangyayari
kahit pa ngayon ginagawa na both matanda at bata- harap harapan pa
Mabuti pa po si Mr. Peter Cua, after his hybernation for 30 yrs? binuhay pa ang LIHA at nde lang locally, international pa, in less than a year!
WOW galing mo Pete.

@butch hep hep!!!!

i’ll tell you why ( next thread )
weather weather lang yan pre kasi ito
all “elements ” must be right – ika nga.
parang binubuo ang “jigsaw” puzzle
i kwento ko storia next thread..

i beleive.
hohohoho—-liha national tournament isama sa ultra ! i must be out of my mind….eh internationally bawal yan they always say -even up to now they say
well i admit yes!!! it is.
so? but for me i see it very PILIPINO – LIKE ARNIS.or say UFC wrestling ng kano being underground sport – bawal din yan dati So in metaphore- gin banned ng “international federation of martial art” to be a thought “variant sport “let us say for example, ——- so again malas pilipino – yan pa naman laro natin in the case of arnis as metaphore.
- yan ang usual mentality ng tao. pati tatap heirarchy dati
and who am i to strongly suggest things like that anyway. im just a lowly former national player lang.
and I presumed they dont want to do anythign about it kahit pa – very cultural pilipino ito
( inspite of they have all the powers to promote kung gusto nila )
extra trabaho pa ito just to start something .besides it looks “barok” sa kanila i guess. —like showing an international locally made “bakya” to an interntional trade shoe fair in germany,. ahahahah
be back mga amigo to explain more.
pete
the question for sir Oskie is this: How valid is the selection based on the provinces invited to participate in this so called pool? did it cover a vast majority to declare them as true representatives of each area? hope to hear from you sir
im sure sasagutin ng mabuti ni sir oskie yan
just remember, pinagutusan lang sya
pete
@Pete: Wala bang P-R-O ang TATAP? Dahil me inu-uto-san eh? j/k.
how i wish he was this enthusiastic when he was still secretary general. Is he trying to impress to assume a position again?
Maybe. Walang PRO or SecGen ang TATAPnP sa ngayon?
@butch
kahit meron eh kung di intersado lumahok dito
paano? hehe
pete
pre oskie,
can you please explain to me at sa mga comrades natin dito itong tinatawag na so called junior – “training pool” na ito . we would like to hear it as far as you understand what it is. ako mismo nalalabuan , dyan pa naman anak me.
“training” walang alowance ito noh? at least yung basic explanation lang.
ano ?consider national team na ba sila? or trainning lang? sort of a narrow down “list” ganyan ba ? let us say may mga ibang parent na magtanong wht this is, at lesat may explanation dito what their son or daughter is involved at now.
pete
im with you on this pete, if you may sir oskie
Same with me for pete and patrick… anong meron ba sa sinasabing Phil. Junior Pool?
Thank you for posting some of your constructive comments, suggestions and criticisms in this thread. Though I only wish to reply on the more important ones that I feel would be very beneficial to this specific topic, I felt that I also have to reply on some issues coz of such ironical and metaphorical language imputing malice which intends this site’s members to understand, convince and hold me up to public ridicule and derision that are clear manifestations of destroying and impeach my honesty, credibility and reputation as a table tennis aficionado. I will always respect the one who owns and maintains this site which I feel had gone a long way in propagating the sport through connecting, interacting and touching each ponger’s lives through providing significant information. But I won’t tolerate such move by “some” again to discredit my person. I also have the right to dispute and rebut such statement.
Let me first start with this:
Mr. Mel or whatever your true name is, d naman siguro tama sabihin mo na puro palpak ang ginagawa naming “Lahat”. Sinong “ Lahat” ang tinutukoy mo? Is that an absolute pronouncement? Can you be more specific? Have you tried conducting outreach programs or even community recreation programs( e.g. event management, free clinics, conducting seminars and workshops, donating tables and other equipment, reviving our long lost tradition on “liha”, etc)? Do you know how it feels to conduct such endeavor spending much of your time just to propagate the sport? Have you “voluntarily” do such a thing na kahit minsan na sarili mong pawis at resources ay nagagawa mong tumulong sa mga nangangailangan. Kung hindi ka satisfied sa “ aming” ginagawa at kung sino man ang tinutuloy mo, yes you do have the right to question that but I guess in a very humanitarian, rational, ethical and professional manner. Where you there during last year’s Hao Chin Memorial Cup? Why do you stress so much about the “biscuit” thing and the P 200,000 + na prizes? Did you know that the Blue Skies “ biscuit” thing na masyadong mong ineemphasize ay bigay lamang as additional prizes on top of the P 200,000+ na equipment na ibingay sa mga winners. Thanks to my former UP player and UAAP Champion Liezel Siachua a Cum Laude graduate and Product manager of Blue Skies ,who have been very supportive in all my annual events. Bukod doon , ang Pocari Sweat, Piknik, Dickies, only to mention this few ay nagbigay din as “ additional” prizes and giveaways. If you’re questioning about the P 200,000+ prizes given to the winners through equipment, then again I am not in the best position to answer that coz I already said my piece before. Maybe you can do your own research on this and ask those who are responsible coz hindi po ako ang in-charge diyan. At kailangan ko pa ba ulitin ang aking previous statement regarding this? In fairness naman sa mga taong tumulong na mapaganda man lang ang pag ooragniza ng event na ito, kung ikaw lang ang nais sumira dahil sa may big event ulit ako next month, then I suggest you watch the event and “ SEE” for yourself kung talagang “ palpak” then go straight and tell me instead of putting me on a spot again. Oo nga naman, there’s a saying that goes like “ NOBODY THROWS STONES ON FRUITLESS TREE”. I won’t reach this far ( 8th staging of this event including 11th sa Chancellor’s Cup) kung “ palpak”. Yes there are flaws just like any other event being staged but I guess these are tolerable and understandable considering that my students are the ones organizing this in partial fulfillment of their requirement in my class in UP. Alam mo ba na tuwing nag kakaroon ng events na ganito, palaki ng palaki ang participation? I think that’s the “ONLY” consolation I get na somehow, people still patronize and support my events and still have their trust and confidence. And now, the Ateneo Varsity Team which Coach Floyd heads requested me to hold it at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym. I can always do it in UP again but I want it also to be held in other venues. We should give them credit somehow kahit wala nako sa eksena coz of their efforts considering their being new to this endeavor. Kadalasan kasi pag ganitong “defamed” statement ang pinopost mo, it ascribes to presumption of malice . Kung pwede sana go straight to the point. Mahirap makipag rebut pag d mo kilala ka rebut mo. So don’t expect me to reply back again unless you want to be more rational in posting your comments coz this has always been my contention/stand every time somebody like your person bombards me with such statement. Unfair din naman yun sa part ko. I don’t plan to get appointed in TATAP or even be hungry for a position. Napagdaanan ko na yun and I don’t intend to be one again. I experienced the politics and even the hardships being dragged sometimes to public outrage just because you were part of the bandwagon. Ayoko na po. I can do some other things with or without any position in TATAP. Hindi rin ako nag papalakas kay Mr. Carranza. But I guess mahirap din tanggihan ang request niya especially if it concerns the youth. I suggest you do the same and approach him and suggest important matters that you feel will improve his program. I’m sure he will be happy to listen and perhaps implement your suggestions.
to be continued….
Now I will answer my other colleague’s inquiry.
Yes, the initial plan was to hold the event supposedly in Cagayan De Oro when Dario Hernane made the announcement during the Visayas selection in Bacolod last May. As I said, the event pushed through instead in Davao recently during the Kadayawan Festival. If you would ask me about the possibility of including players from Iligan and Cagayan De Oro, I would highly recommend that. But like I said, I am doing this on a voluntary basis.
Butch, I don’t know who is the PRO of TATAP. I am not interested anymore to accept any position. I made that pronouncement earlier and I will stand by it. That is not my priority. My priority is just to help and that’s it. Just like you I guess where you also give in your inputs and how to improve the system. Your suggestion actually is effective but let me further explain the idea on “ Decentralization”. I don’t actually know the “ old training” system that you are referring to but I do agree that we need to have an efficient ranking system by identifying the major tournaments to be able to have a ranking/rating system. During my time, there were tryouts held even in the confines of the “old” TATAP where only two tables were available. For now, what events are the major ones? National Open? Age Group events? Invitationals? Yes this needs to be identified/addressed so that players will prepare for it if they wish to make it to the national pool. Let me share some of my thoughts on decentralization by first giving you an overview of a proposed grassroots development program:
MY PROPOSED NATIONAL TABLE TENNIS JUNIOR AND GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
GOAL:
“ To promote table tennis among the youth and undertake a comprehensive mass-based table tennis grassroots development program”
Objectives:
1.To identify and select young potential table tennis players from all sectors of society to train through a comprehensive training program for the grassroots level.
2.To increase the national pool of players from the youth in order to widen the selection basis for the composition of the national team.
3.To expand the talent identification to the different regions and systematize the training of these athletes
4.To conduct regular clinics and workshops for athletes, coaches, trainers and P.E. teachers in order to transform their jobs into a career enhancing opportunity.
5.To participate in local as well as international competitions in order to gain more experience.
6.To produce a world caliber table tennis player in the future.
Organization:
This program will be composed initially of coaches duly appointed
by TATAP. Other coaches can also be tapped who will serve also as part of the national coaches pool from other key provinces such as General Santos City, Cebu, Cagayan De Oro, Davao, Baguio, Cavite, Iloilo, NUeva Ecija, Pangasinan, ILigan City just to name a few.
Program Proper:
TATAP’S National Junior Development Program under Mr. Alvin Carranza as head will take initial steps in the implementation of the grassroots program. The program consists of the following:
1.Talent Identification Program
Coaches tasked to implement the grassroots program should first identify key areas on where to scout potential athletes 14 and 17 years old and below. These coaches can be sent to places where table tennis talents can be identified like schools, clubs, youth centers etc. They can also scout for athletes who compete in regional and national competitions like the Palarong Pambansa, age-group tournaments and national open. Players who are selected will undergo a comprehensive grassroots development program.
2.Recreational Program
Since a venue is already available, this program can be implemented by having a recreational program for the youth aged 12 years and below. A clinic can be conducted to attract the youth to engage in table tennis and inculcate intrinsic appreciation.
3.Instructional and Educational Program
Since most players who will be selected are students, it is TATAP’s responsibility to monitor each athlete’s education. This program can also consist of providing assistance to deserving athletes to be given athletic scholarships in schools which offer a scholarship program. A program for the out of school youth should also be established to also give them the opportunity to study. In addition, regular workshops and seminars can be conducted in order to upgrade the level of teaching and coaching of athletes, coaches, trainers and even P.E. teachers.
4.Competitive Program
This program should give the players the chance to compete regularly in local as well as international competition.
Now this is my idea on Decentralization:
PROPOSED PLAN FOR SYSTEMATIZING/DECENTRALIZING THE NATIONAL TABLE TENNIS JUNIOR AND GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
GOAL:
To decentralize the training program and identify the training centers in the different regions that will serve as a base for selecting national junior players.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
1.To select players that will compose the national junior pool based in their respective regions / provinces.
2.To give opportunities for the players to train systematically and represent their regions that will compose the national junior training pool.
3.To expand the national junior training pool not only focusing in Metro Manila but as well as to the other regions.
4.To let the players train in their local regions instead of coming to Manila.
5.To widen the selection basis for the composition of the national junior team that will participate in international competitions.
PROPOSED PROGRAM PROPER
The program starts with identifying the different pilot areas (e.g. clubs, schools, sports centers, etc) in the different regions that will serve as a center for training table tennis players on a systematic basis with the training program patterned from the national junior table tennis training program. These centers will be sanctioned by TATAP duly approved by the Mr. Alvin Carranza as head. These centers should provide adequate facilities and equipment for training. These centers can be named : “ National Table Tennis Center, ______ regional or provincial chapter. Tapping in players can be subdivided into different categories depending on the support coming from their local government units or private sectors. The local pool can compose of:
1.5 boys and 5 girls 17 and under
2.5 boys and 5 girls 14 and under
3.1 local head coach and 2 coaches
* if the players selected from each region/island ( e.g. Visayas, Minadanao) come from different regions/provinces, then they can still train in their respective area as long as the program is “standardized” A coach can be selected to supervise their training
This local pool of players will undergo training under the supervision of
the local coaches with the program patterned after the national training program of TATAP. The different training centers will be provided with a comprehensive training program. If certain players come from other provinces, it is best proposed to have them study in schools that are accessible to the training center where they offer scholarships to varsity athletes. A calendar of activities both national and international will also be provided so as to prepare them for these events.
On a monthly or quarterly basis, coaches from the national team can visit these centers to monitor the progress of the training. One good proposal is to conduct regular monthly or quarterly rankings of the national pool who will be invited by these local centers so that this will give a chance for the local players to see the current level of play of the national team. Two of the best local players each from the men and women’s team can participate in the ranking. The national coaches can also conduct a crash clinic during the event. The event can be done in three days. The host center provides for the transportation and accommodation for the players and coaches.
If there are international events lined up, the centers will be given an invitation to let their top players from their center join in the try-out which will be done in Manila or any provincial host for about three days. The information will be disseminated to these centers prior to the said event. Local coaches will also be given a chance to coach in these events depending on their qualification which will be evaluated by the coaching committee of the association.
Lastly, there will also be a National Summer Table Tennis Camp to be conducted in Manila or any provincial host for 1 month. The Association will try to provide accommodation for the participants. This will give a chance for the local players to participate in the national training together with the current national team. Local coaches will also be invited to join in the summer camp which also features a seminar in coaching. A proposed plan for this event is to invite 2 junior and 2 girls players from the different regions as well as 2 coaches to join in the summer camp.
These are just some of my proposal. Please feel free to make your comments on how to improve it. Please provide also some useful information on identifying the venue and possible players who can make up the pool in addition to the ones selected. By the way, again, I am not working for Mr. Alvin Carranza. Like I previously said, we’re of the same boat trying to support the youth program. I also don’t have any plans of going back as Sec. Gen again of TATAP. Not anymore. Yun nga ang hirap, ako kadalasan ang nirerequest tumulong sa kanila and at the same time parang lumalabas na ako na din ang spokesperson. That is not the case. I cannot speak for TATAP anymore. Please address your concerns directly to them and most especially to Mr. Carranza as Head of the program. These are just my thoughts.
to be continued ….
Now regarding Peter, Patrick and Butch’s inquiry about the national pool, as far as I know the players selected from the three events held recently ( Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao) are the “initial” list of players who will compose the national junior pool. If you’re asking whether they are the final list, for me, they are not “ yet”. Why? Because first of all, we still need to identify more talents especially those who failed to join the mentioned events and also for those who won the last Palarong Pambansa which I feel should automatically be part of the pool. I agree that for now, we don’t still have the best junior pool of players in the country. In addition the initial slots are not filled up yet ( e.g. 17 yrs and under for Minadanao).Yes, there is an initial number of members of the pool who were selected. This is better than NONE at all or purely based on “ HAVE MONEY WILL TRAVEL AND REPRESENT THE PHILIPPINES’ POLICY”. . We can eliminate the problem of sending players in international events representing the country even if they are not qualified. But the numbers in the pool can still increase if you will ask me. For now, at least, we have identified some talents based on the results of these events. Some may have not made it even if they feel they should whether they lost during the events mentioned or they didn’t participate at all. We just cannot also serve them in a silver platter. They should still undergo selection but we can exempt the winners of the Palarong Pambansa. This “partially” validates their being part of the national pool BUT anything can still change. Your suggestions actually will validate the selection process that I feel should need to be improved like including other major events for the selection basis ( e.g. Emoy Cup that will be held soon and the National Championships in Ultra among others). It’s good thing some of you mentioned such events and even the name of the players whom you feel should make up the pool. For me, this also validates the selection process.
Regarding monthly stipends and equipment needs, I guess this is a sensitive issue. First TATAP should make a formal request to PSC to give allowances to ALL the players selected in the pool ( 60 of them plus coaches). I feel that this won’t be possible considering the limited resources that PSC supports. As far as I know at present, we don’t have PSC’s support on our junior pool. Before we used to have but limited to only 5 junior players each for boys and girl’s team which categorized them as “developmental” pool. Now with the big number that composes the “ pool”, what is the right solution? Since we are decentralizing the program, we can tap the support of local governing units as well as the private sectors in their respective provinces which TATAP should endorse. Of course, TATAP’s role should also provide resources to implement the program. But I think it should also be a concerted effort among the different LGU’s and private sectors.
Now in regards to players who should represent the national team in international competitions, these are my thoughts:
Of course, the composition of the national team will be based from the pool that will have to undergo try-out in order to be qualified. Since the players are based in different areas, a venue for try-out should be identified and invite ALL those who make up the national pool are “required” to try-out for the national team for participation in the said international event. It may not be always in Manila and if there is someone from the province who wishes to host the event, then by all means. But first the invitation for the try-out should be disseminated to ALL players concerned. This should be done at least 2-3 months before the international event to be participated. So from the try-out, you can therefore select the best players that will compose the national junior team. Now here are some other important concerns that needs to be addressed:
First, who finances the trip? Yes, it is supposed to be TATAP’s responsibility to get the resources for this trip being the national governing body. Yes, they can make representations by requesting financial assistance from PSC or any private sector. Now the problem is what if TATAP cannot provide the resources even if they already made a formal request? What happens to the selected players? Maybe that’s the reason why some players are sent to international competitions because TATAP cannot provide such assistance even if they are not qualified. The said team or player/s are being financed either by their own LGU, school or perhaps a patron/philanthropist. So the said team represents which TATAP has no choice rather than not sending at all. Now where does the problem lie: Here are some questions that need an answer:
1.Were all the players/team concerned informed about the event or only a few know about it? Kadalasan yung iba hindi naiinform at nalalaman na lang naming may pinadala na pala sila. There’s a completely a problem on transparency here.
2.Is it right for those others who represented the country even if they have the resources but did not go through the selection process? Did they get TATAP’S blessing? How can we solve this problem or did they do it on their own? Yes I admire some efforts done by coaches or even their LGU’s to finance such international event. What is their main agenda? Is it because TATAP cannot provide the resources needed for participation in such event or perhaps they would rather make it as a means to prepare themselves in national events such as the “Palarong Pambansa”. Alam niyo, let’s be realistic. I really feel disappointed if some are sent in international events even if they’re not qualified. But on the other side, I also cannot blame some coz oo nga naman, wala kasing suporta ng TATAP to finance them. Now where does the problem lie?
3.Who/What should be prioritized to be sent? A team/player/s who have the resources but did not qualify or not send a team at all? Again, how can we solve this problem?
4.What should be the right process in sending players for international events without undergoing the above problems? Ok lang ba na ganito lagi to the advantage of some coz oo nga naman that they have TATAP’s blessing or “ malakas “ sila sa TATAP. Papano naman yung iba na na deprive yung right nila considering that they consider themselves as one of the top mplayers in the country by winning in various national events? Kung anak mo kaya sa tingin mo ay worth to be sent and represent the country but was deprived due to some who were sent instead without undergoing tryouts, how would you feel?
Here are my suggestions:
1.Go on with tryouts and select the players who will compose the team.
2.If TATAP cannot provide financial assistance, then what TATAP can do perhaps is to endorse the team/player/s so that they request for financial assistance from their respective LGU’s or private sectors or even parents WHO ARE WILLING TO FINANCE THEIR SON/DAUGHTER to represent the country. I would if I would be given the opportunity. AS LONG AS YOU ARE QUALIFIED SELECTED FROM THE NATIONAL POOL! Remember, you only get to become a junior player for a few years. During my time when I was still a junior, mas mahirap ang selection process and everything has to go through TATAP. I never experienced the luxury of representing the country as a junior because TATAP didn’t have the resources. For some it was fortunate that they were able to experience such opportunity ( e.g. Michael Ngo and my brother Tacky sent to China for three months training under the United Nation’s program. Eight of us were supposed to go there but they were the ones selected.). I’m sure my friend Peter will agree with me. D natin pareho na experience maging National Junior players representing the country in international events but kahit paano we were team mates in the 1981 SEA Games as senior players.
3.What if the aforementioned team/player/s cannot get any resources, then what’s the next thing to do? TATAP can therefore ask those other team/player/s WITHIN THE POOL if they can finance their trip. BUT AS LONG AS THEY ARE WITHIN THE NATIONAL JUNIOR POOL.
I guess I’ve said enough. I’m sharing these thoughts because I care for the sport. And for as long as I can do something within my means, knowledge, capacity and resources, I would do so because I love the sport. I hope some would also “do” the same thing.
Still have to prepare for tomorrow’s UAAP Games.
Prof. / Coach OSCAR YOSHIHIRO S. SANTELICES
@Coach Oskie: Your idea on decentralization is great and I like it as a starting line for the future of the kids in TT but worse thing is the implementation and the sense of urgency for TATAP to make it happen. I don’t know how TATAP management present their justification to the PSC for money approval??? TATAP don’t have an updated website or anyone from them that can participate in our healthy discussions here (kahit me side bet–> man enough to answer it professionally). Maybe TATAP need to learn TIME/PROJECT Management and concrete presentation to the PSC. Powerplay is very important not only in politics but even in multi-national companies regarding budget & expenses. Ahh, I dont really know about sports politics?
@oskie
Its a very good plan, in writing at least sir,i hope its not limited to the usual cities and provinces that you mentioned , i hope you explore other cities and provinces that are seldom, rarely or never visited by tatap.
thanks
well said sir oskie.now we know.so you are a TATAP outsider and you are just trying to help.saludo kami sir oskie sa malasakit mo.Ano naman ang ginagawa ng TATAP insiders, tulad nila Binag,Ortalla, Boquirin et all?Tuloy pa rin ba ang travel agency nila?
belib ako kay pre – yes you hear him right mga kababayan who cares sa philippine tt ! outsider pa sya ngayon so far.walang formal appointment.
malasakit sya muna .
sya nga napapa pagbintangan lage kahit pa tungkol sa biskwit , naku . di naman nya control yon.
human nature lang ang tao madaling makalimut sa gud works na gawa at dali maka retain memory na mali . i think parang nagpaliwanag na sya somewher in writing tungkol sa biskwit controversies. kung meron bgyan mo link pre dito sa sites na ito. yung postion mo at that time. paulit ng paulit nalang mangyayari yan kung di mo pakita yung side mo pre. pakita mo link , kawawa ka naman pre.
pete
but why now, not when he was sec. gen.?
@patrick: Good question!
to slowly analyze what pre oskie said:
WHO ARE WILLING TO FINANCE THEIR SON/DAUGHTER to represent the country. I would if I would be given the opportunity.
= and sacrifice yung “ palarong pambansa” opportunity ? Yung binibigay beneficio ng school, at sure allowance makuha so on and so forth down the path for being a palarong pambansa player. ?
Kapag tsempo pa negative ang dating ng answer ng dep ed sa current letter natin ngayon, Bawal mamangka sa dalawang ilog —– tapus!!!!!– eh naku sa panahon namin pwede. may nangyari bang masama i wonder.?
Remember, you only get to become a junior player for a few years.
= tama ka – so is palarong pambansa. In a boys/girls lifetime.
= we wonder now alin ba ang mas matatag- itong palaraong pambansa or tatap who cannot even promise you finances. Ang dating parang ata : – bahala na ata .!!!!!
At kapag for some reason di makapunta abroad at tinatakan na sa ulo ng national palyer .so for entire life pati palarong pambansa di kana makabalik – tiklo na bata ganuun ba ? Naku wag sana. malinaw dapat ang guidelines dito.
kung may loophole dapat malinaw rin ahahaha
talagang pinahihirapan pag decissionan ang mga parents Nito.naku —
will school really be happy they have a national team player and yet di mapakinabangan for their palarong pamabansa Lang man. – kung walang pakinabang wag ng bigyan ng benefits yan.pati benefits sa palarong pambansa go down the drain na. . Di ba ———eh, hangang pangalan lang yan. Walang silbi talaga sa school , may personal motive din mga schools.i think ha .they expect something in return.
depende rin kasi ang tingin ng parenst. . towards pingpong. kwarta or kahon.?
parang kwarta or kahon yan pagpiliian ka, naku – di ba puede – both?
makuha nila the best of palarong pambasa , di ba masmaganda yan.for our country to represent ?
and for some reason beyond the kids control. di makapunta or di natuloy abrod yung mga nanalo sa tryout ( at the end minsan di kasalan ng bata yon , di naka kuha ng budget parents or di sinuportahan ng club or lgu ) —- anybody can still come back pa sa palarong pambansa , nakalabas man or hindi. . for me that the best, tuldad sa amin nuun.
kung give “chance to others” ang motto dep ed – why not pag nanalo ka na this year ,next year bawal ka na policy.!!!!! ahahah eh wala rin palang pagkaiba sa training ng national team eh binato rin pala ata sa sariling coach nila ang pagka training ===== di rin “elite” ata tawag dun to justly say—– you are more special sa pag alaga sayo at malayo na skill mo na “give chance to others ” naman
pete
@Pete: for me, mas matatag ang Palarong Pambansa kumpara sa TATAP try-outs. Sa Palaro you have to win first in the school inrams then the division meet then the regionals! Mas maganda talaga sa Palaro ang pagpilian for abroad competition at wala pang gastos ang TATAP for the so called “instant noodles”. Tulungan na lang nang TATAP ang DepEd ang tamang systema nang competition sa table tennis. Lalong kakayod ang players at respective coaches nila pag me ultimate goal na after Palaro “meron pa pala bakbakan outside Philippines”.
that’s the problem with pete , tira ng tira sa DepED.but since time kaninong legitimate national event nakakaranas ang mga batang pongers natin, e di ba sa DepED na DECS pa noon.you should just accept it pete, and choose. sa juniors ka ba na pangalan lang ala naman laro, o sa pambansa where your kid can establish a name and reputation and prepare him to be a national player, labas tayo ng labas kulelat naman, pahinog muna sa palaro. serious naman competition doon, right?
basta ang naranasan ko nuun panahon ko at ngayon iba.
mismo niranasan ko. speaking from experience me.
may “gray area “ang mga policy ngayon.ito im sure. and therefore we must bring out the problem na perhaps dep ed di rin na realise na problema nito for table tennis.
so i apologise kung pagdating sa tenga mo patrick ay so called “tinitira” ko sila
as a matter of fact, i heard from my pre – pasalamat sila na tukoy ang hidden problema , kung di pa ako nagiingay – eh puna ko kasi dami nag a “underground” sa paglabas as national team daw , dahil lang nakahanap ng “weakness “sa policy ng dep ed. – well first. unfair sa amin yon. ito isang issue lang ito at meron pang related problem attached kaya nga gin clarify natin ang talagang position nila
kung walang problema bilis labas ang sagot. eh hanggang ngayon wala pa ang sagot eh si alvin caranza na nga mismo ang pumirma as tatap chairman na nag i -inquire at di common juan de la cruz na .
wala pa rin, so I see it as talagang – may “problema” talaga at di basta basta madaling sagutin. so we just have to wait.
while the time is fast ticking for the decison for so called ” junior national players ” na for a hard price to pay to be one.
