Few tips on Crucial points / Deuce’s
Always remember that when crucial points / deuce’s comes both players are on high pressure level, and sometimes you will be caught an aware of some points of your opponent that you are not prepared ,that is why mental block comes and some reasons are lack of optional strategies ? 1. A- lways be on a offensive conscious, because even great defensive/choppers get their points on offensive mode, either attacks or counter attacks because of this shocking approach. 2. T- otally well planned in executing a offfense mode, when a low backspin/chop given by your opponent, always be sure to use higher trajectories or high ark, with more spinny loop spins so that you may drop it more consistently on endlines of the table, because we all know that the low ark trajectories are easy on counter attacks. 3. T-estings and trials should be used before reaching crucials and deuce’s so that both of you and your coach will agree possitively what you have planned and observed and it can be use for the next or another match and when failures comes no one should be blamed on it. 4. A- lways have and mastered a special or emergency service for 3rd ball attacks that your opponent have a difficulty in receiving. 5. C- consistency training with a combination of a tactical drills ( situational drillings starts with attack after service ) for refinement and great results. 6.K- nowing yourself and your opponents on every matches/ games will give you a good experiences and preparing you for a better good performance in the future. 7. S- eriousness in training is the blue print and one of a great factors that will be use in implementing when crucial moments/deuce’s points comes. …as old sayings , OFFENSE is the best defense. I hope this may help and A blessed coming prosperous new year to all table tennis community God bless you all. |

Ms. Rachel Ramos, the secretary-general of the Table Tennis Association of North District (TATAND) has just returned from her impressive umpire’s duty at the 49th Ever Grande World Table Tennis Team Championships held in Guangzhou, China, from 23rd February to 3rd March 2008. Ms. Ramos is indeed very much grateful for being given the opportunity to work in this ITTF’s major event and consequently gaining a lot of needed exposure and experience in international umpiring.
It was a stroke of luck for her as, on the last part of 2007, her name was selected to join the list of visiting foreign umpires to this WTTC 2008 from numerous nominations received by the ITTF Umpires and Referees Committee (URC) from different Associations worldwide. Undeniably, it was of big help that the ITTF URC has been very supportive of the female participation on the sport. Read the rest of this entry »
The ITTF has withdrawn all existing approvals for glues that contain VOCs. This glue can be used in competitions until 31st August 2008, entirely at one’s own risk with respect to possible health risks. After that we are only allowed to use water base glues. It reminds me 20 years ago, my co-player Renato de Romas use Elmer’s Glue-All that needs 12 hours to dry.
Today’s table tennis water base glues are fast drying. Read the rest of this entry »
Ever Wonder Who St. Valentine Was? Or why so many people get all mushy around the second week of February? Here’s a brief synopsis:
St. Valentine was actually two people (that weren’t romantically involved) who were martyred on the same day (c. 270). Feasts commemorating them were celebrated on February 14. One was a priest and physician who died in Rome during the persecution of Christians by Claudius II Grothicus. The other was the bishop at Terni, Italy who was also martyred in Rome. Both have been buried at different places along the Flaminian Way. Read the rest of this entry »
Let me thank the people behind the TATAP , kahit na nung nasa pilipinas pa ako ay wala sila pakialam sa improvement ng mga technical official, anyway im not sour graping since na wala ako dapat patunayan kahit kanino except to prove to myself na bilang pinoy pongers at involve in technical in tatap at least i contribute in my own little way na magkaroon ng mga kaibigan sa ITTF organization.
Maraming Salamat Po.

Butterfly will release a 2 new hybrid rackets Jun Mizutani and Amultart with ZL Carbon technology or Zylon fiber combined with Tamca 5000 Carbon. Zylon blade like Photino and Nittaku Tremendous didn’t sell well here in Japan but most Tamca 5000 models enjoyed the market. This type of hybrid has the power of the carbon and lightness of the ZL fiber. They come with flare and straight handle, haven’t seen it yet but it seems the straight version is a bit different as they are calling it straight inline (SI). J-Pen version is Haruvatart S and R.
Way back 2005 here in Tokyo; I noticed that some table tennis players wear Mizuno Wave series shoes which are really good in terms of design and in my opinion the shoe sales from other manufacturer dropped.
Now I am seeing more players again wearing Butterfly shoes and that is the ENERGYFORCE (one word) with αGel technology from Asics. I haven’t tried it yet but it is light and flexible. Read the rest of this entry »

Traditionally, sports nutrition has only been associated with sports such as long distance running where the link between successful performance and diet is well established; most people are familiar with the trend for marathon runners to eat large amount of Pasta on the night before the big race.
How ever, recent research has shown that even in sports like Table Tennis which consist of long periods of exercise involving shorter burst of high intensity activity, correct nutrition can contribute towards improved performance.
Peak performance can only be achieved if players have prepared themselves correctly prior to competition and an important part of his preparation is NUTRITION .

Sometimes your opponnents will not expect concerning your backhandtopspin unless you execute it.and they will got surprised if you will use it,because a lot of people trusted their forehandSpins so much when it comes to 2nd & 3rd ball attacks in the forehand side & specially if your a one wing attacker or a penholder, basically that’s good & perfect stroke.
Many players always use their forehand specially when the ball is too high, we want to hit it very hard and that is okay also.
I would like to share some of my experiences when i was still an active National player before 1982-1995,thank God for Coach Philip Pigao and one Chinese Coach name ShangKe & also 1973 World Champion Mr. Xi Enting last 1993 in my 30days training camp in his Beijing Insitiute of Sports for teaching us concerning the BackhandtopSpin Strokes.

Motivation and Feedback in Coaching The definition of motivation can be divided into two main camps. The first is that of enthusiasm for something; when athletes are highly motivated they are often really enjoying their training and are really keen to do their sessions. The other camp is that of the need or reason for doing something, i.e. the motivation behind what is being done. So, an athlete may not be enthusiastic about getting up at 6am to do a long bike ride in preparation for an Ironman triathlon, but they are motivated as they know that if they do the training now they will be more likely to do better in the race. When planning a season and defining SMARTER goals, the motivation to achieve those goals should be assessed by the coach as it will have a direct impact on the amount and intensity of any training set and the success of any training programme. Knowing any barriers to training and also the athletes’ training likes and dislikes will help in future motivation lapses.

The number one key to success is to plan your practice in advance. It amazes me how many coaches get to the field and wing it. You must know what you’re going to do—and more importantly—what you want to accomplish before you start the practice. A good practice needs a warm-up, primary activities, and a scrimmage all of which should be tied into the theme or objective of the practice.
The length of the practice should be equal to the length of a game. The warm up should be 15% of the practice; the main activities 45-50%, and the scrimmage 30%. The remaining 5-10% is for cool down and administrative tasks. Read the rest of this entry »

Q – I’ve been a nervous wreck all my life. Can you really change your personality?
A – If you’re like most people, you probably feel that leopards can’t change their spots. For leopards this may be true, but for you it’s dead wrong. If youve been limited by your Aspots, whatever they may be—lethargy, anxiety, self-doubt, fear, panic, depression, apathy, or even bad luck—then you need to be convinced that the power for change, real change, is a choice that Self-Coaching can teach you to make.
Q – I’ve tried positive thinking and it hasn’t worked. Why is Self-Coaching different?

It never ceases to amaze me when I talk to athletes and they complain about how negative their coach is and how that individual always leaves them feeling badly about themselves. A recent conversation with a D-I softball pitcher from out West underscores one of the more costlier mistakes, performance-wise, that coaches make.
It seems that this coach is predominantly negative in all her interactions with her players. She is overly critical and never fails to take advantage of an opportunity to catch her athletes doing things wrong. By itself, this isn’t bad. You can’t coach without providing accurate and timely critical feedback. However, if all that comes out of your mouth is negative, sooner or later you’ll begin to tear your athletes down rather than build them up and make them stronger.
