Gonzales, Seronio plunge to Carranz semifinals

BACOLOD CITY: Richard Gonzales and Isaias Seronio did the spectacular to snatch their semifinals tickets in their respective events at the 1st Carranz Outdoor National Junior Table Tennis Games on Saturday here in SM Bacolod’s event center.

Gonzales of Killerspin banked heavily on his strong forehand drives to post a convincing 20-11, 20-13 win against J. Boy Batayola of Cebu City and assured himself a semifinals slot in the singles Sandpaper Racket Harbat Liha event.

“My consistent strong forehand drives are the key to this win,” said the 38-year-old army man Gonzales, who is also the reigning Southeast Asian Table Tennis Association (SEATTA) men’s open single’s gold medalist.

Gonzales, a 2005 Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) open singles silver medalist, faces Cebuano favorite Berto Bas in the semifinals of the tournament organized by Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP) chairman Alvin Carranza.

Bas defeated Winston Jimenez of Killerspin, 20-13, 20-12, in the quarterfinals. Harold Logronio of Bantayan Island whipped Armando Cabinum of Cebu, 20-18, 20-17, to battle Boy Cuico of Cebu in the semifinals. Read the rest of this entry →

Gonzales smothers helpless foe, makes it to quarterfinals

BACOLOD CITY – Army man Richard Gonzales of Killerspin gained the first seat in the quarterfinals of singles Sandpaper Racket Liha event of 1st Carranz Outdoor National Junior Table Tennis Games on Friday at the SM Bacolod’s event center here.

Gonzales, the 2008 Southeast Asian Table Tennis Association (SEATTA) men’s open singles champion, effortlessly repulsed unheralded Egay Miraflores of Bacolod in the round of 16, 20-11, 20-9.

The Philippine’s No. 1, as expected, relied heavily on crisp shots and consistent blocking to easily dispose his opponent in both sets of the five-day tournament organized by Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP) chairman Alvin Carranza.

“I need to save my energy for the quarterfinals. I’m really confident to win today,” said the 2005 Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) silver medalist Gonzales, who considered by many a strong contender to win the trophy and the P15,000 top cash prized. Read the rest of this entry →

Gonzales enters Liha event ‘Magic 14 Round’ in Carranz Cup

BACOLOD CITY – Philippine’s No. 1 Richard Gonzales of Killerspin entered to the magic 14 of the men’s singles Sandpaper Racket Liha event of 1st Carranz Outdoor National Junior Table Tennis Games Thursday at the Saint La Salle Campus here.

Gonzales, the 2008 men’s singles Southeast Asian Table Tennis Association (SEATTA) open champion in Jakarta, Indonesia, routed two cebuanos in the elimination round to make it to the knockout phase round of 14.

The enlisted Philippine army trounced Armando Cabinum, 20-10, 20-10, before subduing Oscar Sable, 20-5, 20-13, to top the hardbat or Liha event elimination organized by Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP) chairman Alvin Carranza.

“This is my event ever since, so I’ll do everything to win it,” said the 2005 Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) silver medalist Gonzales, 38, who is the favorite of the crowd among the participants that could pocket the top purse P15, 000.00 cash prized.

Boy Cuico of Cebu defeated Raphael Corpus of Bacolod, 20-5, 20-7, and Dario Hernane of Cagayan De Oro City, 20-22, 20-17, 24-22, to also join Gonzales in the Magic 14 round of the event sanctioned by TATAP. Read the rest of this entry →

Lopue’s TTC opens Carranz Cup with a bang

BACOLOD CITY: Title-contender Lopue’s table tennis club, as expected, dominated the opening day of Carranz Outdoor National Junior Table Tennis Games by winning three games in different divisions Wednesday at the Saint La Salle Campus here.

Former national player Isaias Seronio opened the men’s team non-rank team event division with a win by dismantling Rolando Raganas, 11-3, 11, 11-1, 11-7, followed by a victory each from Arnie Uy and Germaine Dolosa as Lopue’s A swept Saint La Salle University, 3-0, for first win.

Uy defeated Kris Daniel, 11-7, 11-13, 12-10, 11-7, and Dolosa completed the win for Lopue’s A in Bracket B after giving Raganas another loss ? 11-6, 11-2, 11-5 ? in the event organized by Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP) chairman Alvin Carranza.

“This is a good start for us, but we need to win more,” said Seronio, whose team is backed by Bacolod’s businessman Leonito ‘Diotay’ Lopue. “There’s still four teams left on our bracket and all of them are competitively good.” Read the rest of this entry →

Carranz table netfest kicks-off today

BACOLOD CITY:  The country’s toughest paddlers from the Visayas region are going to compete for pride and honor on Wednesday, when the Carranz Outdoor National Junior Table Tennis Games opens at the University of Saint La Salle Campus.

Bacolod’s No. 1 ace player Isaias Seronio, also a former national team, Arnie Uy and Marell Lagunday of LOPTTA will spearhead the campaign of the Ilonggos in the five-day event organized by Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP) chairman Alvin Carranza.

At least 500 participants around the country mostly junior players in Cebu, Negros, Bohol, Samar, Leyte and Iloilo, among other provinces are expected to see action to qualify to become member of the boy’s and girl’s national junior pool member in the Visayas region.

“I’m very thankful the people of Bacolod are very generous to hold this event to promote the grassroots level of table tennis in the country” said Carranza, whose event is supported by TATAP president Col. Cesar Hawthorne Binag and Vice-president Jose Ortalla Jr. Read the rest of this entry →

Just to inform you that the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod will once again host the 12th University Games to be held on October 22-28,2007.

The UNIGAMES, the only national collegiate sports competition based in Bacolod City, gathers together the finest varsity athletes from private and government universities from all over the country in the spirit of fair play, friendship and top-caliber competition. Through the years, the UNIGAMES has served as feeder for our different national teams representing the Philippines in the Olympics, the Asian Games, Southeast Asian Games and other international sports competitions.

There are 12 sports discipline to be take part in the said event, these are the ; Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Football, Lawn Tennis, Sepak Takraw, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball, and Beach Volleyball.

The venue of TABLE TENNIS will be held at Riverside College from October 22-25,2007.

Technical Meeting with the coaches and tournament directors will be on October 21, 2007 at 4:00 PM at University of St. La Salle-Bacolod College Covered Court.
