Lefty Serknight Benoya of Misamis Oriental clinched the 14&under championship gold medal while Palaro silver medalist Xyjan Ramos of Cagayan de Oro tops the triple-tie for the 17&under in the just concluded Phil. Olympic Festival, Table Tennis Mindanao Qualifying Games.
The 11-yr old underdog Serknight Benoya clears the way in the winners bracket by sending out two heavily favorites, his elder brother Sergio Benoya, and Reynaldo Soriano, Jr. of Cagayan de Oro in the losers bracket for the top-8 double elimination system. Sergio Benoya’s win over Soriano, Jr. in the semi-finals, encounter again his younger brother in the twice to beat finals. The elder brother proves to be too strong in the first game and continue the play in the much applauded 2-all deciding final match. At the end game of 12-14, the fighting spirit and the struggle of the younger brother give him the gold medal.
