Here are memorable pictures dated back after the World War II from Coach Freddie Ibañez (former National Coacch). Americans brought table tennis to us more than a decade earlier than the famous Ping Pong diplomacy in China.
Thanks to Peter Cua who brought Liha into international spotlight, he was Cebu to witness the 1st Serging Osmeña’s Cup and at the same time to hunt for priceless pictures.

If you’ve been playing table tennis in the 80′s or earlier, you may know more about our table tennis history especially if you played for our country. I started to play table tennis in 1982 with Liha and my chance to play with high caliber pongers started in MMPTTC or Precinto in 1985, mostly sponge players with few Liha and Hardbat players like Hardbat master Mang Tayong and famous Mang Pilo Ybañez who play Liha, Hardbat and Sponge. In short, I don’t know much about the history of Philippine Table Tennis, but there are few articles in the internet that the Philippines had great table tennis history. There should be more from Bulletin Today (now Manila Bulletin) archive and un-published story from our veteran players.
For now, here are the articles that interest me. If you have more, please feel free to share by posting comment below. Read the rest of this entry →
