BACOLOD CITY: Richard Gonzales and Isaias Seronio did the spectacular to snatch their semifinals tickets in their respective events at the 1st Carranz Outdoor National Junior Table Tennis Games on Saturday here in SM Bacolod’s event center.
Gonzales of Killerspin banked heavily on his strong forehand drives to post a convincing 20-11, 20-13 win against J. Boy Batayola of Cebu City and assured himself a semifinals slot in the singles Sandpaper Racket Harbat Liha event.
“My consistent strong forehand drives are the key to this win,” said the 38-year-old army man Gonzales, who is also the reigning Southeast Asian Table Tennis Association (SEATTA) men’s open single’s gold medalist.
Gonzales, a 2005 Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) open singles silver medalist, faces Cebuano favorite Berto Bas in the semifinals of the tournament organized by Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP) chairman Alvin Carranza.
Bas defeated Winston Jimenez of Killerspin, 20-13, 20-12, in the quarterfinals. Harold Logronio of Bantayan Island whipped Armando Cabinum of Cebu, 20-18, 20-17, to battle Boy Cuico of Cebu in the semifinals. Read the rest of this entry →

BACOLOD CITY – Army man Richard Gonzales of Killerspin gained the first seat in the quarterfinals of singles Sandpaper Racket Liha event of 1st Carranz Outdoor National Junior Table Tennis Games on Friday at the SM Bacolod’s event center here.
Gonzales, the 2008 Southeast Asian Table Tennis Association (SEATTA) men’s open singles champion, effortlessly repulsed unheralded Egay Miraflores of Bacolod in the round of 16, 20-11, 20-9.
The Philippine’s No. 1, as expected, relied heavily on crisp shots and consistent blocking to easily dispose his opponent in both sets of the five-day tournament organized by Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP) chairman Alvin Carranza.
“I need to save my energy for the quarterfinals. I’m really confident to win today,” said the 2005 Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) silver medalist Gonzales, who considered by many a strong contender to win the trophy and the P15,000 top cash prized. Read the rest of this entry →

Philippines ’ No. 1 Richard Gonzales of Killerspin won the “Liha” sandpaper event crown after beating Berto Bas of Cebu City, 20-16, 20-14, while Killerspin came up victorious in the “Liha” team competition event by defeating Cebu City.
