POC rejects PSC plan to conduct tryouts for new RP team

7:11 pm in News by Harry

Less than a month before the athletes plunge into action in the 25th Southeast Asian Games in Laos, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) are again at loggerheads.

“This is a form of government intervention because selecting athletes is the role of the NSAs and not the PSC. It’s a total violation of the Olympic Charter,” explained International Olympic Committee (IOC) representative to the Philippines Frank Elizalde.

Hindi pa nga nakakalaro ang mga atleta natin sa Laos SEA Games ay eto na ang balita na matatanggal na sila sa team. Ano ang magiging epekto nito sa kanilang morale sa Laos?” said Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP) director Dante Boquiren.

“If will be better to have principled athletes and NSAs than to see them as paid athletes and NSAs. Besides, the money of the PSC is intended for the athletes and should be given to them,” said POC deputy secretary-general Mark Joseph.

“We have various strategies being studied and the details are left to the different legal committees because possible cases may be filed against the PSC since the move violates even Republic Act 6847 or the PSC Law,” Joseph said.

International Rules…

6:50 pm in Blogroll by Markos

It seems that the Philippines doesn’t follow international rules. Mainly I am speaking of serves. I know it is entirely up to TATAP whether to follow International rules or not. But it makes it rather difficult to teach young kids the legal way to serve when all the players in the country serve illegally including top ten. There are a lot of new rules that just came out. One is no more speed gluing. But I noticed at least one player at the Huaching tournament still doing that.

Laos SEAG Updates

8:30 pm in Blogroll by Harry

We still have enough preparation left for SEAG but this time it is for 2011, time to forget 2009 SEAG and the issues that we had lately.

The best will come from 21 sports as the RP sports officials decided to scrap the RP bets participation in indoor volleyball, beach volleyball, badminton, football, table tennis and soft tennis. – PSC

Feel free to comment if you have better ideas but please let’s make our discussion healthy. There are some negative post (or should I say constructive analysis) lately against TATAP. If you are not happy with our association we can blame TATAP as a whole  because it is not managed by a single person and dropping a name will only end up in heated debate and negative results.

Always remember that we all love table tennis, let’s move on.
